Windows of the World

This last Monday both Danny and the kids had the day off for China's Tomb Sweeping Holiday. Danny thinks that it's a holiday because it's opening day for the Red Sox. :-) Similar to Memorial Day, people go to visit loved ones who have passed on and take them food, money and things for them to be comfortable. They then burn these things to "send" to them. It was a cold and rainy day, which worked out to be in our favor. We had originally decided to go shopping for furniture. They have these markets that are huge with all kinds of really amazing furniture for very cheap. I called up my friend Jane to find out how far away it was and she said it was 2 1/2 -3 hours away..........I immediately knew that it was never going to happen. My kids have a melt down when we go on a 2 hour plane ride, and that's suppose to be fun. Both Danny and I were a little bummed.....we really wanted to go. We need to find some furniture for our house to put clothes in. We have closets, but no drawers for anything. So because we couldn't do that, we wanted to make sure we didn't waste the day. We decided to go to a place called Windows of the World here in Shenzhen with our friends the Farnsworths. They hadn't been yet either so we thought it would be fun to go together. People come from all over China to visit this place and on a warm day it would have been swarming with people. Because the day was cold and rainy it was dead, which meant that we almost had the place to ourselves and it was comfortable to be outside. So the park is filled with all these replicas of all the famous places to see in the world. Some of these are huge like the Eiffel Tower and then others are small that you just walk around. They had shows of dancers from all the different parts of the world. Very fun to see. They also had a some rides and things to do in the park. Because people come from all over China to see this, lot's of them have never seen or rarely seen American kids with blond hair, so poor Maddie and Riley were mobbed by people for pictures, not just girls and women but groups of business men. They would just come up and grab them and hug them and then want to have pictures taken. It was very sweet that they were so excited, but it go old really fast for the girls and eventually they would not even look when they wanted a picture. It's hard to be so cute. :-) Anyway we were there the whole day and had a great time and the kids didn't complain a bit......I think we made the right choice.




This weekend it's our conference weekend, because of the delay we watch conference a week later so we will do that and celebrate Easter.........I don't think the Easter Bunny can get a visa to China.. if he does somehow manage to get his visa he is going to have to be very creative about what he leaves. :-) Happy Easter to all of our friends and family.
